Have you ever dreamt of traveling back in time, especially on a train? Well, this is your chance then! 1940s train travel is now making a huge comeback thanks to the Hudson River Rail. The company is now offering mid-century-inspired train trips along the Hudson River.
The Main Trip
On the occasion of its 75th-anniversary celebration this year, Hudson River Rail has arranged these special rides for travelers on restored rail cars originally from 1948. According to its 2023 schedule, the first ride will start on February 10th, between New York City and Albany. Kevin Phalon serves as the Executive Director of the United Railroad Historical Society of NJ, Hudson River Rail Excursions. According to Phalon, this unique initiative is as close to time travel as one can get! The train, with its historic cars, will run on the exact same tracks on which it used to run during the 1940s. So, the riders will enjoy the same view travelers back then used to look at.
The Other Offerings
The historic cars of the trains were attached to the 20th Century Limited, which was an express passenger train company, operating during 1902-1967. Travelers wishing to depart on Moynihan Train Hall from Pennsylvania Station will have the option to board one of the two vintage cars included in the fleet, namely the Tavern Lounge No. 43 and Hickory Creek. Lunch and drinks are included in the ticket. Hudson River Rail company is also offering a Valentine’s Day Special ride from the 10th-14th of February. This unique trip will range from $299 to $399 for a lavish first-class service on the two historic cars, Tavern Lounge No. 43 and Hickory Creek, respectively. There’s also an overnight journey, scheduled from the 17th-21st of September, from New York to Chicago. This lavish journey will cost $2,500 per person on the Hickory Creek Car.
